CareSite opens community pharmacy at the Geisinger Medical Clinic in Pottsville, PA

With months of construction finally complete, Geisinger Medical Group officially established occupancy in December at the Louis Fanelli Professional Center in Pottsville.

On Tuesday, Geisinger’s CareSite Pharmacy will open for business on the first floor of the 45,000-square-foot, three-story professional center at 529 Terry Reiley Way, which was formerly Coal Street.

City officials agreed to rename the street in honor of the late mayor last month.

Approximately 20,000 square feet of the building will be occupied by Geisinger medical professionals within the Geisinger Health System.

The new location merges Geisinger’s local family medicine, pediatrics and women’s health practices, all of which were formerly located at Schuylkill Manor Road and Mauch Chunk Street, Pottsville.

“We’ve brought everything together under one roof, in one central location,” said Dr. Thomas R. Graf, director of Schuylkill County operations for Geisinger Health System, which is headquartered in Danville.

“Having a CareSite Pharmacy located at our practice will deliver a new level of service to our patients. It’s very beneficial for our patients to have the opportunity to consult with a CareSite pharmacist immediately following their physician visit and between visits to their physician.”

The second floor of the building is partially occupied by the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Pediatric Services Clinic, which will make pediatric specialists from the Geisinger Health System accessible to the Schuylkill County community by providing regular rotating office hours for specialists at the Pottsville clinic.

The clinic will also provide access to pediatric specialists in allergies, neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, oncology, cardiology and infectious diseases.

The CareSite Pharmacy will provide a full line of prescription medication, over-thecounter medicine and pharmaceutical products to its customers.

Pharmacist Lisa Gerber said the pharmacy may also offer home deliveries and CareSite online services in the future.

Gerber said she also wants to host a variety of community awareness events, like a “Mr. Yuk” poison awareness open house and child identification kits at the pharmacy.

“I want this to be a place where people can feel comfortable talking with the pharmacist - I want to offer personable service, like the kind the Mom-and-Pop stores used to provide to their customers,” Gerber said.

Gerber is a Pottsville native and a graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science who has worked as a pharmacist in the Pottsville community for more than nine years.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients in my own community,” Gerber said. “It’s nice to get to know my customers, to let them know that there’s a person behind the counter they can trust for all their health and prescription needs.”

The location of the pharmacy also benefits Geisinger patients, Gerber said.

“We’re right here in the same building with the other medical offices, so it makes it so much more convenient for those patients, especially for our pediatric patients,” she said. “The doctor calls in the prescription and by the time their appointment is over all they have to do is walk over and pick it up. It’s great if you have a sick child with you. It’s one stop, and you’re done.”

The CareSite Pharmacy will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, please call the pharmacy at (570) 624-4120.
