READING, PA – The board of directors for SureHealth LLC selected James M. Messina today as the company’s president and CEO. SureHealth LLC is the parent company of CareSite pharmacies.
“Jim Messina’s knowledge of the healthcare industry, as well as his extensive executive experience, qualifies him as the obvious choice to lead this company,” said Mike Gaffney, chairman of the board for SureHealth LLC. “We are very excited about the launch of our CareSite pharmacies. Jim will spearhead the opportunity before us to transform pharmaceutical care and to improve the health and well-being of our customers.”
Messina led the sale of HealthMarket to UICI in October 2004. While integrating HealthMarket into UICI, he was the president of UICI Administrative Services Group. Messina served as HealhMarket’s president and CEO before the sale of the company.
Prior to joining HealthMarket, Messina was a senior vice president for CIGNA Health Care and led company’s underwriting organization. In this role, he was responsible for pricing and servicing $25 billion in business. Prior to joining CIGNA, Messina was senior vice president of Uniprise Operations, a United Health Group company, where he was responsible for all administrative functions (claim, service, enrollment, fulfillment, etc.) for both Uniprise and United HealthCare companies. Messina led an organization that was responsible for servicing over 12 million members.
Messina is a certified public accountant and has held various strategic, business and financial planning positions. He has been instrumental in a variety of change management, business development and integration activities.
Messina held a variety of leadership and strategic positions during the evolution of The Travelers health care businesses to the formation of MetraHealth and through the ultimate acquisition by United HealthCare of MetraHealth. He was also the founder and CEO of OES Business Solutions LLC, a small business consulting and technology firm. Messina has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arizona, where he currently serves as a member of the President’s Leadership Committee.
CareSite pharmacies provide a full-line of prescription medications and other healthcare products to their customers. More importantly, the point-of-care pharmacy services of CareSite enable the company’s pharmacists to work closely with the physician and healthcare provider community to deliver improvements in clinical and economic outcomes for patients. The clinical services of CareSite include comprehensive pharmacy management and consultation for patients with difficult-to-treat, chronic conditions, customized patient strategies to improve compliance to prescribed regimens, and patient consultation regarding clinical alternatives designed to reduce the patient’s financial burden.
